History of the Southwest Virginia MS Support Group

My name is Marshal Baker Baker.  Please call me Marshal.  And I have has MS for 30 years.

I was born on November 28, 1958.  I was born in Frankfurt am Main in West Germany (at that time) into a military family and have moved all over the U.S. and traveled in nine European countries.

I am divorced and have two children, Ryan Andrew (4/17/92) and Amber Anna (11/17/1995).  They live with their mother and I try to see them as much as the MS and being able to travel will let me.

I was diagnosed in 1978 with transverse myelitis (TM) which is an inflammation of the spinal cord.  TM is uncommon but not rare.  The doctors told my mother that it could be MS but back then they did not have the capabilities of a MRI to see that I lit up like a Christmas tree when they did one.  Well it has been 30 years.  I diagnosed my brother with MS when my ex-wife (then wife) thought he was had been drinking or was drunk.  I watched him for a while and saw some of the same things which I had when I was first diagnosed.  Please read his story by clicking here.

Even though MS is different I know understand what you are feeling and going through.

I am hoping that some time in the near future I will be able to meet many new people through this Support Group which has started.

Please take care of you and May God Bless each and every one of you.
